*** New Litter Arrived February 6, 2021!***
French Bulldogs have been a long time love affair for Erica, and that passion has been the largest contributing factor for our kennel and our breeding program. When we brought our first French Bulldog home, it definitely changed our loves (for the better!) and we hope that this is the case when one of our puppies leaves for their forever home.
Below is some basic information on French Bulldogs. We hope you will read it and continue to do more research while deciding if this is the breed for you. We are always available to answer any questions you may have, so don't hesitate to reach out to us.
French Bulldogs are called "The Clown in the Cloak of a Philosopher" by the American Kennel Club. They are an active, intelligent, muscular dog with heavy bone structure, smooth coat, compact build and are of medium to small structure. They are charming, cleaver dogs that will make you laugh but also have a stubborn streak that will require their owners to be diligent and consistent with their training to ensure they are respectful member of their household.
French Bulldogs have several possible health concerns you should be aware of and consider when looking to add one to your family. The health of the puppies we produce is extremely important to us and we complete rigorous testing to ensure any dog we breed or breed to meet our high health standards.
As a brachycephalic breed (think short, squished nose), French Bulldogs are well known for breathing problems due to their shortened airways. Because of this, they overheat quickly and will likely snore (its cute until you have to move their crate to another room so you can finally get some sleep!) and are best exercised in the morning or evening before it gets too warm.
French Bulldogs are low maintenance when it comes to grooming due to their short hair. A monthly bath, weekly brushing and monthly nail trim will do the job well. They do require their face folds/wrinkles to be gently cleaned regularly to avoid bacteria and yeast from infecting them. Same with their tail folds.
Our goal at Top Gun Kennels is to produce happy, healthy, consistent, sound French Bulldogs puppies that meet or exceed the breed standard for both CKC and AKC.
